The relationship that you have with your wholesale distributor is vital to the success of your business. If you do not have inventory, then you cannot sell it to your customers. Also, if you gain a reputation for not having the right products or if the products you sell are not top quality, then you will loose your customer base and your business will stagnate.
Finding a wholesaler is important, but once you have selected one (or more than one depending on the size of your business), your next priority must be to establish a relationship with that wholesaler and keep the lines of communication open. Just like any other business relationship, your interactions with your wholesaler are important. Keep that in mind each time you interact with them. It is important that you be polite and that you make reasonable requests, but also don’t forget that you are the customer and that it is logical for you to expect a good customer service. When a problem arises, be sure that the issue is resolved between the two of you in a fair and honest manner. You will have to work with this person again, so be careful not to offend or to point fingers. A little humility now will go a long way when you need them to get a specific product to you quickly or if you have a customer with a special request. Overall, a good relationship with your wholesale dealer is not difficult to obtain. All it takes is a little extra time and a willingness to work together to achieve a mutual benefit.
