Watch retailers often find they are in a position to repair watches. If you are learning about repair, it's important to know what tools you'll need. There are six tools you'll need to start with, but in time you'll want to expand.
In order to repair watches, tweezers are essential. It would seem to make sense to get the magnetic type so you don't lose small parts, but magnetic tweezers can get in the way. Tiny parts will stick to them at all the wrong times. Screwdrivers are another necessary item. You will need a variety of sizes. You might laugh when you first see how small they can be made. Oil is also important to watch repair. There is a range of quality on the market, so do your research and make sure you purchase a good quality oil. This is one purchase you don't want to choose based on price. As anybody who has tried to open the case knows, a good watch case opener can make the entire process much easier. A closer is important, too. It does you no good to repair a customer's watch, only to return it to him with a broken or scratched case. The last item pertains to visibility. You will be working with tiny parts. This requires an area with lots of light and probably a high powered lamp. In addition, you'll want a good magnifier. This is a list of the basics you will need to start in watch repair. It is not all-inclusive. As your business grows, so will your supplies.
