If you are planning on buying and selling new products, you will have many options to use as your buying source including manufacturers, sales agents, craftspeople, wholesalers, importers, distributors and liquidators. Deciding who you want to buy from will largely be based on the criteria linked to your specific needs and revolve around the price of the product, the suppliers reliability, product quality, product and supplier guarantee, supplier terms, and supplier fulfillment. For the most part, you can get the best of all these criteria by going with a wholesaler distributor.

Wholesale distributors typically offer a broader range of merchandise than importers and manufacturers. General merchandise wholesale distributors are the most common companies you will find and they typically stock and sell a large variety of household products. Then there are industry specific wholesale distributors who specialize in specific areas such as food distributors, tools and equipment distributors or clothing and textile distributors.

The benefit of buying from a wholesale distributor is the fact that the process of buying from them is straightforward. You usually just need to find a distributor that is selling the type of merchandise you need, open an account with them and then start buying their products wholesale.

A good idea is to open several accounts with multiple distributors so you can always have the option of finding the lowest price in addition to taking advantage of any special offers individual distributors may be offering and ensure that you will always have a reliable and steady supply of your products in case one of your distributors runs out of the product you need.

Elgin Watches

The Elgin Watch Company was founded in 1864 right as the civil war was ending. Their first watch was an 18-sized B W Raymond railroad grade watch. Over the next 100 years, they produced close to sixty million watches. In 1910, they produced their first wristwatch, leading all other American watch companies by many years.

Elgin started out as the National Watch Company, but in 1874, the name was changed to Elgin National Watch Company. This name was kept until the late 1960s when the company stopped producing watches and changed their name to Elgin National Industries.

The founding idea of Elgin watches was the mass production of high quality pocket watches using machine made, interchangeable parts. Up until 1850, most pocket watches were made by hand so that if something broke you needed to find someone with the right tools and skill to fix the broken part.

Elgin never made high quality or cheap watches but they dominated the vast middle ground of the watch market. Today, Elgin is popular with watch collectors. Since Elgin produced so many watched and spare parts, you can still easily buy them today and fix them easily. Even a 100-year-old Elgin watch can still be used so long as you give is daily care.

In 1964, the Elgin Company closed after producing half of the total pocket watches ever manufactured in the United States and this figure doesn’t include the dollar type pocket watches that Elgin also produced. The rights to the name Elgin were sold. Therefore, all Elgin branded watches made after 1964 are not connected to the original Elgin Watch Company.

The Evolution of Casio Brand Watches

Casio was originally known for their calculators. In 1974, the company decided to try the watch market. The first watch marketed by Casio was the Casiotron. This watch had advanced features for a watch of its time. The Casiotron made Casio a well known name in the watch market.

The move to the watch market was a decision made to diversify the company. The move to watches was not too difficult because in 1974 watches were beginning to be made with some of the same technology that calculators were. The advanced knowledge in the technology of calculators put Casio in a vary good position to make a break into watch production.

The Casiotron was a computerized watch. It featured the ability to keep a current date, despite different month lengths and leap years. This feature was truly unique for this time in watch history. After this first watch, Casio kept introducing watches with advanced features. One watch, the C-80, had a built in calculator. There was another watch, the T-1500, that featured a dictionary. Such great features helped move Casio watches to the top of the market.

Today Casio is still at the top of the industry. They are still providing revolutionary designs and features that are new to the market and consumers like that. The newest line of G-Shock watches are chunky, bold watches that stand apart from the thin, smaller watches elsewhere in the industry. Casio will surely have more to show in the future as they continue with their success in the watch industry.

Retail Closeouts

Retail companies who are liquidating their stock will often take extremely low prices on their items. This is why retail closeouts are so cheap. You can take advantage of liquidations to buy bulk merchandise for your business at prices that are often lower than the manufacturing cost.

Store closeouts are another good option for the small business. Closeouts allow you to shop for items in a particular genre and you can often check back to see what’s in stock. You can often jump on great deals when they present themselves during store closeouts.

Store closeouts are the best way possible to help save money on merchandise for the small business owner. This is because the prices are often well below the wholesale price and in some cases even below the manufacturers price. The only drawback to purchasing store closeouts is the fact that you are getting such a great deal because the items are sold in lots. The lots will often come in varying sizes.

Occasionally during a store closeout, you can choose the lot size when you consider an item. You can choose between a lot of 144 and a higher price or a lot of 1,000 and a cheaper price.

If you need to buy items in bulk then a store closeout is the right away to go. You can take advantage of opportunities such as liquidations and closeouts to buy items at prices lower than anywhere else and sell them to your own customers. However, you should be aware and not buy in too big of lots at one time since you may be stuck with items you can’t sell.
