Wholesale Croton Watches

  January 19, 2007

A lot of people want to wear a high-priced, brand name watch but not all of them can afford the price tag. Those who really think their watch will make a good impression turn to knockoffs or counterfeits to improve their self-image.

The difference between them is that a knockoff does not make any statements to claim being the original while a counterfeit will attempt to make people think it is the real thing and hence usually sell for a higher price. Most manufacturers accept the fact that knockoffs exist, and some take it as compliment. They do not, however accept the fact that cheap counterfeits are cutting into their business and possibly hindering their reputation.

Knockoffs are typically sold as such, noting they look like a specific brand or have the same features as a specific brand, but do not offer any warranty or guarantee that comes close to the original. With a knockoff that you buy on the street, you will probably get what you pay for and no warranty. Counterfeits, on the other hand will usually look like last year’s model and being offered as this year’s watch. If you have any doubt you can take the watch to a licensed jeweler to verify the authenticity of the watch.

There will be other subtle differences with counterfeits such as the colors used on the face or on the hands and specific words or numbering on the face and even the shape of the marking to denote the hours. The company keeps a permanent record of all the little details and can quickly determine if the watch is real or not.

Selling Wholesale or Closeout Watches Online Requires Buyer Trust

If you have come across a great deal on a wholesale lot of watches and plan to sell them online, there are just a couple thoughts to consider before buying them. First is your reputation as a seller, whether it is your own online store or you are planning to sell them through an online auction site. If your reputation is lacking, you may have a hard time unloading them.

You will also want to include pictures of the watch from every conceivable angle, and the buyer needs to feel as though he has every view of the watch. You also need to provide all the information available in your original description. If a buyer has to ask too many questions they may quickly lose interest or maybe even believe you have purposely left out information with a do not ask, do not tell attitude.

This is especially important with high-end watches as people may be reluctant to buy merchandise without being able to touch and handle it first and be able to visually verify everything in the description. If your auction site offers an escrow service more buyer may be willing to buy from you. With escrow, the money is paid into the service and once the buyer receives the merchandise they notifies the service to release the payment to you.

Every online auction service has a feedback rating listing that advises potential buyers of your reputation as a seller. Above all, be totally honest with your approach to selling watches online and as long as the feedback comments are based on facts, there can be nothing negative said about you or your merchandise.

Buyer Beware With Online Auction Watch Purchases

While you peruse the online auctions for various merchandise, you may run across a watch that looks like a good deal. Even though the seller has posted numerous pictures on the auction site, it is still like buying the watch sight-unseen. You cannot tell from the picture if the watch is actually working and if the description says works, but needs new battery, you cannot be truly sure that it does work. If it is that good a watch the seller should spring $3 for a battery.

The price being asked for the watch should give an idea of the quality of the watch and if it includes a warranty or some sort of guarantee then it should also include the original sales receipt. Most warranties require the receipt for service to be performed. You should also know the name of the watch company and do not assume the Folex brand is a typing error and that you are bidding on a Rolex for $100.

On the other hand there are some really good bargains to be found on watches at an online auction, but caution is needed before spending any money. You can check the feedback score of any seller and if there is any negative comments listed, be sure to read them before you make a determination to buy from that seller.

You may find a watch at an online auction that meets your standard for design and color and despite being a brand you may not recognize if the price is right and you like its appearance, there probably is no harm in placing a bid.

Be Sure To Wear The Right Watch For The Occasion

Since a watch is probably the most important piece of jewelry a man will wear, it is important that the watch on his wrist matches the occasion on which it is worn. If you are going to the gym to work out, wearing your Rolex watch is probably over-kill. Likewise wearing a LED watch with a black plastic band with a tuxedo is also in bad taste.

The watch you wear says a lot about the person and while it is not necessary to have a different watch for every occasion, it is important that the watch you wear a watch to match the style of the occasion. A nice gold watch with matching gold band will fit in just about anywhere at work to most social occasions. If your gold band broke and you are wearing a silver replacement band, wearing it around the house may be suitable but probably not in public.

A stainless steel watch is usually dressy enough for most occasions yet durable enough for play and it is possible to be waterproof as well. Although you normally do not worry about a water proof watch as you would usually not wear it in the swimming pool but it can be good if you are caught in a heavy rain.

The size of the face is another consideration, as the he-man watch you bought can look ridiculously big or small on your wrist, depending on your size. If a large person is wearing a small watch face, it may look like a children’s watch, or worse, if a man is wearing a too-small watch it may appear to be women’s watch.

The color of the watch is equally important when it comes to making an impression. Wearing a watch with the face the same color as the band may seem to be trendy, but it is not very professional. For business and most casual attire, stay with gold or silver.

Things To Look For In High Quality Wholesale or Closeout Watches

If you are in the market for quality timepiece and want to be assured of getting the best value you can, there are a few things you should know about buying a fine quality watch. Probably the best first step is to buy from an authorized jeweler as in many cases with a high-end watch; the manufacturer’s warranty is not valid unless the watch is purchased by an authorized retailer.

Quartz watches represent the vast majority of watches being sold today, as they are very reliable with the quartz-powered movement. The reliability is based on an average lost time of about ten seconds per month. A quartz watch never needs rewinding and its battery will last up to five years. A mechanical watch will either have to be wound by hand almost daily and a self-winding watch winds with gravity based on the wearer’s everyday movements.

Materials used in fine watches are typically gold, steel or titanium or a combination of them with gold being the softest and the most prone to being scratched. Stainless steel offers good durability while platinum, the more expensive metal, is the strongest and will hold well under tough use.

Ask about warranty and guarantee and be sure you get the box and all paperwork and instruction manual with your new watch. Most manufacturers offer a one-year warranty but a few do offer extended warranties as well as guarantees on the band and case in addition to the movement. Be sure you have a detailed itemized receipt, which will be needed if warranty service is required.
